Traffic is on the rise again

Hello everyone … just wanted to wish you all a happy new year and say thank you for visiting Elven Forest over the holidays more than before again. We had some traffic peaks right after christmas where we hit the 26,000 again and stayed well above 20k for a few days – see attached statistics which counts the average number of visitors per sl hour. At some days it did get quite busy with about 30 visitors per hour – sorry for all the lag issues which you experienced at that time. (more…)

Reminder

Elven Forest was, and still is created, to be a relaxing place to stay and enjoy, in many ways.
There are few rules and those in place are not strickly enforced, unless a persons actions are spoiling the enjoyment of others.

As many of you know there are places containing adult content, to be used or not as you choose.

This is just a reminder to you all that what happens here should be completely consensual between all parties, and if you feel harrased or being pushed into an action you would rather not be part of, to inform a guard or management of the forest.

This can be done by sending an IM directly, or using the board, on the pier, in the unlikely event that none of us are online, send a notecard to a manager:

Bugs Larnia
Izzy Cyberstar
ClaudiaMarja Magic
Laylakaylee Kaligawa

We’re here to help and ensure that every visitor whether here for the first time or a regular visitor can continue to enjoy this beautiful creation.

New Group Inviter

I’m very happy to announce that we finally found a new group invitation system … which is actually partly based on suggestions from me – thank you Maeve for including them all and for creating such a powerful tool.

So what is most important for you to know? What has changed?

  • The good news – nothing has changed. The service works just as simple like before, just click the sign and you instantly will receive a group invitation from one of Maeves bots.
  • plus she added some additional stability compared to our current system, which means theres now a cloud of 2 bots handling the group invitation requests. So one of them should always be online.
  • aaaaannddd … the most important new feature – you can now GET GROUPTAGS directly from the bots!! YAYYY!! Just click the grouptags signs below the main “join group” sign and get your tag instantly added to your roles. Read here on how to make your grouptag visible afterwards.

Available grouptags from the bots up to now:

  • Faerie
  • Dark Fae
  • Mages
  • Wizards
  • Wood Nymph
  • Vamps&Werewolves

Please let me know if there are any issues with the group invitation or the tags you liked to get.

Have fun
Voy

Clarification about Rules

There has been some confusion about the rules lately at the forest. I’m really sorry for that, please ignore or delete all the notecards which were sent out by a former guard. Just to make it clear – the rules can be found at a sign near the telehub, which is on the pier at Blossom and at the arches for Jaded Wings. Nudity was one of the discussed points which is ok at Blossom since it is set to adult, but its not at Jaded Wings. The guards have received an update on this, since there was even some confusion amongst them… weather to enforce wearing clothes or not. So, nudity is ok … but we would still appreciate if you keep it at least at a tasteful level which fits to the overall fantasy theme of the sim – even when showing off these private parts of yours. And also a word to you guys – running around with your dicks pointing to the sky is sooo no-no …

Blossom rules - see rule 1 (Adult = nudity allowed)

Blossom rules - see rule 1 (Adult = nudity allowed)

Rules for Jaded Wings are just slightly different since the sim is set to mature:

Jaded Wings rules - only 5 in total

Jaded Wings rules - only 5 in total

And to not cause any more confusion – the rule ‘wear fantasy or medieval clothes’ is not a must… its a ‘please do it’. It is needed if you want to participate in any kind of roleplay tho which is happening at Elven Forest. But of course Elven Forest is open for everyone, especially its private places, also for those in normal street clothes. When walking around in the center places of the forest you should keep it at a decent leven though. Walking around in a Star Wars outfit or as a full armed desert storm soldier might result in a guard telling you to adjust or outfit.
If theres anything else which needs further clarification then please feel free to make use of the comment function below this post.
Take care ~ Voy

Help with lag issues…

Hello again, I seem to have gone notice mad, but after revising the Rules I have had a few people mention the word LAG at me and “Why wasn’t it mentioned earlier”

So, I have written up a few different solutions that could very well help reduce lag and “slide’ time between sim crossings.

xxAggy

Agatha Udimo (was sent as a notice in group and deserved Blog post…thank you Aggy!)

The following is her attachment from group notice:

A common problem people have when joining Second Life is that they do not realize how much bandwidth and space loading a Sim can be, and so, they set their bandwidth and caches to full capacity.

You should not do this, the reason being that the HIGHER your bandwidth, the HARDER your computer and internet connection has to work in order to load everything within your vicinity at a much faster rate, but by doing so this causes lag.

Now, depending on your Internet connection you could have a maximum bandwidth of 1000 Kilobytes Per Second (Kbps), or a maximum of 8000 Kbps. Of course it may vary but do not worry, the following instructions are for everyone no matter their maximum or minimum.

To start:

Click on EDIT up in the navigation bar.
Select PREFERENCES down the bottom of the drop window.
Click on the NETWORK tab.

You will now see a “Maximum Bandwidth” and a “Dist cache Size”

Drag both of these roughly in the middle for best performance. Keep in mind that yes, environments will take a little longer to load in some areas but LAG will be reduced.

—————————-

Sometimes lag can be caused because of the Graphics card you are using. There is a setting called “Anisotropic Filtering” that runs the viewer at a much slower pace and that most ADI cards cannot handle very well.

To turn this off stay in the Edit–> Preferences menu, but now click on the GRAPHICS tab. From there you will see your graphics settings, ignore that for now and look down the bottom at the HARDWARE OPTIONS button, click that.

A little box will open up with a whole lot of jumbo that to be frank, I don’t even understand, I just know what it does.

You will see a box with Anisotropic Filtering next to it, make sure the box is UN CHECKED (empty).

————————————–

Close the above box now and look at your graphics settings. I cannot personally suggest settings for you guys, because we all have such varying systems, but I do suggest not just sticking to “Low Mid High or Ultra”.

Take your time to fiddle around and play with the settings to find the best performance for your computer.

—————————————

If you stay in the same area, Edit –> Preferences but now click on Audio and Video, you’ll see the various volume bars with the speakers next to them. Contrary to belief Sound DOES take up bandwidth and space.

If you have a low end system with less that 2 gigs of ram and a hard drive smaller than 500 Gigs with less than 2 processors along with a small internet connection my suggestion is to MUTE anything you don’t need on sound wise.

You can do this by clicking on the speaker next to the various sound bars.

——————————————–

I do hope this all helps you, as I do know quite a few of you are having problems with lag and crossing between Jaded Wings and Blossom.

xx Agatha Udimo

Elven Forest Group Tags

“Vedui … you look like a very nice elven, or are you a drow? Well at least you got pointy ears … or are them furry? … and these wings, you’re a fae – right? Seelie or unseelie … I can’t tell”

Did you ever run across someone in the forest asking yourself what kind of character they represent? Well, things could be so much easier by using grouptags … so everyone can see right above your head what kind of role youre playing – just by a grouptag floating above your name tag. Here at Elven Forest we encourage you to wear grouptags and even provide you with some standard ones by joining the group. But any other grouptag which you got by yourself is fine as well.

By joining the Elven Forest Group you can apply for the following roles/grouptags (as of Sept. 2009):

  • Elven
  • Faerie
  • Dark Fae
  • Elven Mage
  • Elven Wizard
  • Wood Nymph
  • This Creature bites (for Vampires and werewolves)

Just IM Voy Sands or Bugs Larnia to get any of these tags after joining the group. You will find the group inviter sign at the telehub – just click it to get an invitation immediately.

group_inviter_sign

Few of you eventually know that there is also a second group for those not so common grouptags … its called ‘Elven Forest Tags’ which offers some additional tags like:

  • Mystic Creature
  • Pixie
  • Drow
  • Faun

You can also gets your tags here from Voy and Bugs – just send an IM.

Was this information helpful to you? … or are you looking for some other role/tag which we’re not offering right now? Please tell us by taking part in the poll below. We will collect your votes and create new roles upon receiving enough votes for them.

How to age verify

Hello … Blossom was set to adult by yesterday which means that you need to age verify to still have access to the forest – Jaded Wings is still set to mature and open to the unverified public as well. Some people were asking on how to age verify, thats why I’m providing you the direct link to Linden Labs here:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=6362

Please find below a few answers on the most asked questions, taken from yesterdays group chat session. (more…)
